Abstract

This paper present a computational approach for determining the effective material constant of porous microstructure. A unit cell, called representative volume element (RVE), is used to represent for a square microstructure, discreted by virtual element method-VEM. There are two stages to connect two scale modelling (i.g. down-scaling and up-scaling). Firstly, macro strain at a material point is applied as boundary conditions for microstructure. Secondly, the average of stress overall microstructure is representative for a material point of macro structure. The axial and biaxial macro strain are implemented to examine the elastic behavior of porous materials. The obtained result are compared with other numerical and theoretical solutions.
