Abstract

With the development of industrial technology, the dimensional accuracy requirement for finished drawing metal bars has become more and more stringent. Therefore, research and development of precision drawing processes are of great importance in the industry. The drawing forming technology is a very important technology in metal forming processing, and its application range is quite wide, including pipe drawing, bar drawing and wire drawing. This research is mainly focused on the study of bar drawing processes.

This study uses the finite element simulation software DEFORM 3D to simulate drawing process of hexagonal stainless steel bars. The effects of various forming conditions including drawing speed, material temperature, parallel section length of the die, area reduction, yield strength of the bar and the friction coefficient between the bar and die on the product dimensions and drawing force are systematically discussed. Empirical equations are also established to predict the product dimensions for different forming conditions. Finally, drawing experiments are conducted. The predicted product dimensions are compared with the experimental results. The errors between them are smaller than 2%.
